Lucas Fluegel

Bio Fellow, Think Tank Track

Lucas Fluegel is doing a think tank fellowship at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Lucas completed his Ph.D. in biochemistry at The Scripps Research Institute, where he explored how nature constructs useful chemical compounds. As a researcher, he engineered microbes’ genomes, uncovered new medicinally relevant molecules, and managed one of the world’s largest collections of bacteria. Lucas investigated the policy implications of emerging technologies as an intern at the US Department of State’s Office of the Science and Technology Adviser and led an exploration of AI-enabled language access opportunities for the City of Saint Louis with the Paragon Policy Fellowship. Alongside his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Science from Scripps Research, Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Spanish Studies from the University of Minnesota.
