Workshops & Events
Through our events and workshops, Horizon helps connect students and professionals interested in breaking into policy with experienced experts and mentors.
Policy careers can be opaque, and career support is often based on personal connections. If you don’t already have an “in” to the policy world, learning about the field and getting relevant advice can be very difficult.
Our events and workshops allow attendees to learn about the latest developments in emerging technology policy, build their network, and receive actionable tips on how to pivot their career toward their areas of interest. They often involve interactive question-and-answer sessions to help aspiring policy professionals resolve their key uncertainties about working in public service. We host events in partnership with other organizations that share our mission of building pipelines into public service, helping to foster a collaborative ecosystem of people and organizations interested in building the field.
The Horizon Institute for Public Service, in partnership with the Inclusive Abundance Initiative, the Policy Entrepreneurs Network, and the Scowcroft Institute for International Affairs at the Bush School of Texas A&M University, is excited to announce the third annual summer webinar series on U.S. emerging technology policy.
As a member of the Tech to Gov public interest technology coalition, Horizon is helping organize a virtual forum and job fair for technologists interested in public service. Co-sponsored by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the event aims to connect professionals with AI and AI-enabling experience with opportunities in state and federal agencies.
Horizon partnered with SeedAI and the Scowcroft Institute for International Affairs at the Bush School of Texas A&M University to host a webinar series on US emerging technology policy careers. With 11 sessions featuring expert speakers who illuminated different career pathways, the series was designed to help individuals decide if they should pursue careers in this field and to provide them with actionable advice.
Horizon partnered with the Brown University Pandemic Center to co-host the Game Changers Workshop for Biosecurity Policy, a three-day event in Washington, DC to help early- and mid-career professionals explore a career transition into the field of biosecurity policy. Attendees learned about ongoing areas of biosecurity and pandemic-related policy and received access to personalized career advice and resources such as professional coaching, and fellowship databases.
