Horizon is hiring for Communications, Program, Data, and Operations roles: Apply by May 22, 2025

In order to scale up the support we can provide to the next generation of emerging technology policy talent, Horizon is looking for multiple mission-driven individuals to join our team in roles involving communications, program management, data systems, and operations work.

Emerging technologies like biotechnology and artificial intelligence are rapidly reshaping our world. The US government plays an essential role in developing and governing new technologies, crafting policies to take advantage of their benefits and guard against the risks they pose. But policymakers’ ability to stay ahead of the curve depends on access to the requisite expertise. And right now, that expertise is sorely lacking.

Since our launch two years ago, Horizon has helped hundreds of experts explore and launch critically needed careers in public service. For example, through our fellowship program, we’ve helped 75+ subject-matter experts fill vital roles at top think tanks, congressional offices, and federal agencies. Our online emergingtechpolicy.org career resource has reached 70,000+ users. We’ve also helped more than 1,000 individuals through our online seminar series and 1-1 advising calls, and participated in the first-ever government AI hiring fair. You can read more about our work and impact in our 2024 year in review.

The demand for emerging technology policy expertise is growing. We’re hiring for four new roles to help meet this demand. You can learn more and apply through the links below (<10 min). The deadline is May 22, 2025.

  • Director of Communications & Outreach / Senior Program Associate (Communications & Outreach)
    • Work with our executive team to elevate Horizon’s national profile by attracting high-quality applicants to our programs, growing our digital products’ reach, cultivating relationships with funders and policymakers, and shaping long-term communications strategy. You’ll oversee public communications, manage program recruitment, enhance our emergingtechpolicy.org platform (which reaches 70,000+ users), support fundraising efforts, and potentially launch new workstreams like policy writing training or a podcast.
  • Senior Program Associate (Data & Talent Systems)
    • Help us strengthen the Horizon’s data infrastructure and talent systems. You’ll manage a database with over 15,000 records, helping us connect talented job seekers to hundreds of agencies and organizations throughout DC. This role focuses on expanding the support we offer to our network of advisees and hiring managers, and improving systems to track impactful roles and key relationships.
  • Senior Program Associate (Accelerator & Content)
    • Work to design and build Horizon’s educational content, with a focus on the most scalable programs. You’ll focus on helping grow our new career accelerator program to provide personalized training and support to 50+ aspiring policy professionals per year, enhancing emergingtechpolicy.org (our career website with 70,000+ users) through new content and product features, and piloting new educational programs like online courses.
  • Senior Program Associate (Events & Program Operations)
    • Work to grow Horizon’s events portfolio, strengthen the Horizon Fellowship, and support internal operations. This role focuses on managing fellowship operations, including facilitating dozens of trainings and placements per year, tracking program impact, and helping administer a multi-million dollar budget. You’ll also coordinate virtual and in-person events programs like workshops and online seminar series, and work on internal operations functions like Horizon’s financial compliance and office management.

We are open to a wide range of candidates, from exceptional recent graduates to mid-career applicants. Research shows excellent candidates often disqualify themselves from roles they could be a great fit for. If you think a role is a great fit for your skills and interests, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t have extensive prior experience with the specific set of tasks. Our hiring process is designed to test for aptitudes and skills, not specific resume markers.
