What our fellows have been working on (March 2023)

We’re very excited to share a sample of what members of the cohort have worked on and achieved during their fellowship placements thus far, including:
- Krystal Jackson, in her role at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology, published an article on compute accounting principles and had a talk on reinforcement learning for autonomous cyber defense accepted to the prestigious RSA Conference. Krystal was also accepted to the Day One Project’s Racial Equity in Technology Policy Accelerator.
- Jassi Pannu, working at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, published an article in Science on the oversight of risky research on pathogens and a paper in the journal Health Security on programmable antivirals and just-in-time vaccines.
- Michael Yang is currently serving on the Equity in Civic Technology project at the Center for Democracy and Technology. He’s had two reports published on the center’s website: Risks from Personalized Learning Technologies and Dispelling Myths About Artificial Intelligence for Government Service Delivery.
- Hadrien Pouget, during his placement at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, published an article on EU AI standards for Lawfare and appeared on the ChinaTalk podcast to talk about AI’s regulatory future in the US, EU, and China.
- Aurelia Attal-Juncqua, a bio fellow at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, published a research report on the biotech R&D landscape in Russia with implications for bioweapons monitoring as well as an article about strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention.
- Katarina Watney, a bio fellow in the Department of Health and Human Services’s Coordination Operations and Response Element (H-CORE), was selected to be part of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security’s Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Initiative Class of 2023.
We’re proud of the work that all of our fellows have undertaken so far. We are also grateful to the host organizations who have provided our fellows with opportunities and support as they build their public service careers.
