We are thrilled to announce the placements of the 2023 Horizon Fellowship cohort, with 20 new fellows working across the executive branch, Congress, and think tanks in Washington DC. A list of their placements is below.

Applications for the 2024 cohort of the Horizon Fellowship are now open! If you are interested in working on AI, biosecurity, or related policy areas at a federal agency, congressional office, or think tank, you can learn more about how to apply at Become a Fellow. The application deadline is September 15th, 2023.

The Horizon Institute for Public Service, in collaboration with partners at the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at the Bush School of Texas A&M University and SeedAI, is excited to announce an upcoming webinar series on US emerging technology policy careers to help individuals decide if they should pursue careers in this field. In line with Horizon’s and our partners’ focus areas, the series will focus primarily on policy opportunities related to AI and biosecurity.

Earlier this month, Horizon partnered with the Brown University’s Pandemic Center, to co-host the Game Changers Workshop for Biosecurity Policy, a three-day event in Washington, DC to help early- and mid-career professionals explore a career transition into the field of biosecurity policy.

Horizon is proud of the work produced so far by our first cohort of fellows, who started their placements in the summer of 2022. These 15 talented professionals have worked with their host organizations — federal agencies, congressional offices, and think tanks — to conduct important research and contribute to policy on a range of emerging technology topics.

We’re excited to share our first update about the Horizon Institute for Public Service, a non-partisan, non-profit organization helping the US government navigate our era of rapid technological change by fostering the next generation of emerging technology policy talent.
